Night World
"Love has never been so dangerous before."
2) Daughters of darkness (Nattens döttrar)
3) Spellbinder (Förhäxad)
4) Dark Angel
5) The Chosen
6) Soulmate
7) Huntress
8) Black Dawn
9) Witchlight
10) Strange Fate (ej utkommen)
"Love has never been so dangerous... The Night World isn't a place. It's all around us. It's a secret society of vampires, werewolves, witches, and other creatures of darkness that live amongst us. They are beautiful. They are deadly and are irresistable to humans. Your high school teacher could be one, and so could your boyfriend... The Night World laws say it's okay to hunt humans; it's okay to kill them. There are only two things you can't do with them: 1) Never let them find out the Night World exists. 2) Never fall in love with one of them. These are stories about what happens when the rules get broken..."
Betyg: 5/10.
Första styckena:
Secret Vampire: "It was on the first day of summer vacation that Poppy found out she was going to die. It happened on Monday, the first real day of vacation. Poppy woke up feeling gloriously weightless and thought; No school. Sunlight was streaming in the window, turning the sheer hangings around her bed filmy gold. Poppy pushed them aside and jumped out of bed - and winced."
Daughters of Darkness:"'Rowan, Kestrel and Jade,' Mary-Lynnette said as she and Mark passed the old Victorian farmhouse. 'Huh?'. 'Rowan. And Kestrel. And Jade. The names of the girls who're moving in.' Mary-Lynnette tilted her head toward the farmhouse - her hands were full of lawn chair. 'They're Mrs Burdock's nieces. Don't you remember I told you they were coming to live with her?'."
Spellbound: "Expelled. It was on of the scariest words a high school senior could think of, and it kept ringing in Thea Harman's mind as her grandmother's car approached the school building. 'This,' Grandma Harman said from the front passenger seat. 'is your last chance. You do realize that, don't you?'".
Dark Angel: "Gillian Lennox didn't mean to die that day. She was mad though. Mad because she had missed her ride home from school, and because she was cold, and because it was two weeks before Christmas and she was very very lonely. She walked by the side of the empty road, which was about as winding and hilly as every other country road in south-western Pennsylvania, and viciously kicked offending clumps of snow out of her way."
The Chosen: "It happened at Rashel's birthday party, the day she turned five years old. 'Can we go in the tubes?' She was gaving her birthday at a carnival and it had the biggest climbing structure of tubes and slides she had ever seen. Her mother smiled. 'Okay, kitten, but take care of Timmy. He's not as fast as you are.' They were the last words her mother ever said to her."
Soulmate: "The werewolves broke in while Hannah Snow was in the psychologist's office. She was there for the obvious reason. 'I thin I'm going insane,' she said quietly as soon as she sat down. 'And what makes you think that?' The psychologist's voice was neutral, soothing. Hannah swallowed. Okay, she thought, lay it on the line. Skip the paranoid feeling of being followed and the ulta-paranoid feeling that someone was trying to kill her, ignore the dreams that woke her up screaming. Go to the really weird stuff."
Huntress: "'It's simple,' Jez said on the night of the last hunt of her life. 'You run. We chase. if we catch you, you die. We'll give you three minutes head start.' The skinhead gang leader in front of her didn't move. e had a pasty face and shark eyes. He was standing tensely, trying to look tough, but Jez could see the little quiver in his leg muscles. Jez flashed him a smile. 'Pick a weapon,' she said. Her toe nudged the pile at her feet. There was a lot of stuff there - guns, knifes, baseball bats, even a few spears. 'Hey, take more than one. Take as many as you want. My treat.' There was a stifled giggle from behind her and Jez made a sharp gesture to stop it. Then there was silence."
Black Dawn: "Maggie Neely woke up to the sound of her mother screaming. She'd gone to bed as usual, with Jack the Great Dane sprawled heavily across her feet and the three cats jockeying for position around her head. her cheek was resting on her open geomtery book; there were homework paper scattered among the blankets, along with fragments of potato chips and an empty bag. She was wearing her jeans and a flowered pajama top plus the only two socks she's been able to find last night; on red velveteen anklet and one blue cotton slouch sock. Those particular socks would eventually mean the difference between life and death for her, but at the moment Maggie had no idea of that. She was simply startled and disoriented from being wakened suddenly. She'd never heard this kind of screaming before, and she wondered how she could be so certain it was her mother doing it."
Witchlight: "The mall was so peaceful. There was no hint of the terrible thing that was about to happen. It looked like any other shopping mall in North Carolina on a Sunday afternoon in December. Modern. Brightly decorated. Crowded with customers who knew there were only ten shopping days until Christmas. Warm, despite the chilly gray skies outside. Safe. Not the kind of place where a monster would appear."
